Join the Library and our 2024 Artist-in-Residence, local drag performer Miz Diamond Wigfall, for a night of both fun and reflection as we kiki about gay ball culture and the rich history of the LGBTQ+ community! We'll watch a screening of the legendary documentary "Paris is Burning," then chat about what we've learned.
About the film: An important piece of LGBTQ+ history and culture, "Paris is Burning" is a documentary that focuses on drag performers living in mid- to late-1980s New York City and their "house" culture–a supportive community for the flamboyant and often socially-shunned queens. Groups from each house compete in elaborate balls that take cues from the world of fashion. The film also touches on issues of racism and poverty, and features interviews with a number of renowned drag artists.
