2021 Barolo: A New Benchmark Vintage

In June 2025, we undertook a deep exploration of the 2020 Barolo vintage, tasting more than twenty‑two wines from many of the region’s leading producers. The lineup was extraordinary, revealing the nuanced finesse and commune‑specific character that make Barolo one of Italy’s most compelling wine landscapes.

We now turn to 2021, a vintage that arrives with the poised assurance of a year destined for long‑term significance. A long, even growing season produced Nebbiolo of exceptional purity, depth, and structural finesse, yielding wines that marry vivid aromatics with precise, finely etched tannins. They show early harmony without sacrificing the power and longevity that define great Barolo. Across the region’s hills and crus, 2021 offers a clarity of site expression reminiscent of the classic traditional vintages, yet with a distinctly modern sense of polish.
