Director Mstyslav Chernov returns to Ukraine’s front lines in this unflinching account of one platoon’s trek to liberate Andriivka
About this Event

Together with Polina Moshenska and shevchenko.philia we are excited to announce our next event: screening of “2000 Meters to Andriivka” - a film by Mstyslav Chernov.

2000 METERS TO ANDRIIVKA: In a companion piece to his Oscar®-winning documentary 20 Days in Mariupol (PSIFF 2024), director Mstyslav Chernov returns to Ukraine’s front lines in this unflinching account of one platoon’s trek to liberate Andriivka. Along with capturing the immediacy of the battlefield, Chernov shapes the film into an existential reckoning, where the platoon’s steady march toward this strategic destination is juxtaposed against the war’s no-end-in-sight horror. As propulsive as it is contemplative about the ongoing battle against Russian aggression, 2000 Meters to Andriivka is an unmissable account of Ukrainian resistance.

Fundraiser information: This screening will be in aid of Hospitallers, a civilian paramedic force founded in 2014 by medical volunteer Yana Zinkevych. Since then and until now, Hospitallers have been operating in Ukrainian war zones “for the sake of every life”, as per their motto. Right on the battlefield, Hospitallers are the first to help the wounded, provide medical aid and evacuate them to the hospital. They also give post-hospital support and rehabilitation to people affected by military actions and their families. As of today, medical crews have already completed more than 3,000 evacuations. The key tasks of Hospitallers are to help the wounded on the battlefield, evacuate them to the hospitals, help in the rehabilitation process, and transfer the deceased to the burial sites in Ukraine. Hospitallers are in constant need of medications and tactical medicine supplies. Funds from the “2000 Metres to Andriivka” screening in Edinburgh will go to support Hospitallers Medical Foundation, as well as help shevchenko.philia cover their licensing expenses for the film costs. You can support the cause through this link and will be able to support on the night with cash donations or by scanning QR codes, along with an opportunity to purchase shevchenko.philia’s merch during the screening.

Content Warning: 2000 Meters to Andriivka is an immersive frontline documentary filmed during active combat in the war in Ukraine. The film presents unfiltered, real-world footage and audio recorded alongside Ukrainian soldiers during a military operation.

The documentary includes: Prolonged scenes of active combat, including gunfire, explosions, drone strikes, and military assaults. Graphic imagery related to injury and death, including wounded and deceased soldiers. First-person perspectives from body cameras and close-range footage that may feel intense or disorienting. Sounds of distress, panic, shouting, and strong language. Themes of trauma, grief, fear, loss, and the psychological impact of war. Moments of sustained tension with little relief or distance from events.

Because the footage is real and not dramatized, some viewers may experience emotional distress or physical reactions. This screening may be particularly challenging for individuals affected by war, violence, PTSD, anxiety, or personal loss. Audience members are encouraged to care for themselves throughout the screening. You are welcome to step out at any time, take breaks, or choose not to continue watching.
