About this Event
Experience the life of a fashion designer in todayβs high-tech world with a 2-day workshop at the Swinburne Hawthorn Fashion Studio. Develop your skills through an immersive workshop where you will be introduced to each phase of the fashion design process. You will design and develop a custom-fitting shirt, learning the key principles of pattern making and industrial sewing. Bring your design to life with the support of expert fashion lecturers.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the workshop, students will:
- Understand methods for developing garment designs utilising elements and principles of design.
- Apply pattern making principles to develop simple styles from industry blocks.
- Use body measurements to fit custom garments.
- Sew materials by machine, utilising industrial machines and methods.
- Explore and adopt emerging fashion technologies.
- Refine conceptual designs into commercial outcomes.
VCE Product Design & Technologies Links
Students currently undertaking VCE Product Design & Technologies, or considering taking the subject, will benefit from the curriculum linked to this workshop. Students will be able to demonstrate:
Unit 1: Design Practices
Outcome 1:Students will use design thinking methodologies to generate product concepts based on a design brief and end-user needs. They will be introduced to the Double Diamond design approach, alongside more advanced frameworks.
Outcome 2:Students will develop their confidence in utilising prototyping equipment such as sewing machines to produce their chosen product concepts. They will undertake a series of experiments to develop their understanding of production.
Unit 2: Positive Impacts for End Users
Outcome 1:Students will investigate and evaluate products that make a positive impact on users in terms of belonging, access, usability and/or equity. They will consider the factors that influence design and make conscious decisions when developing their final product.
Final Project
At the end of the 2 days, you will have a portfolio of work including sketches, mood boards, patterns, and a final garment to showcase within your portfolio. This workshop is perfect for anyone looking to gain entry into a fashion design program or simply interested in pursuing a career in fashion. Join a group of like-minded people and learn something new and exciting.
