Kingston shines in the summer, and this special two-day getaway combines the city's rich military heritage, vibrant waterfront, and fascinating history with one of Canada's most spectacular evening performances.
Our adventure begins at historic Fort Henry, the impressive 19th-century fortress overlooking the meeting of the St. Lawrence River, Lake Ontario, and the Rideau Canal. Enjoy the guided Bonnycastle Tour, where knowledgeable interpreters bring the fort's remarkable past to life through stories of soldiers and military life. Afterwards, you'll have free time to explore the grounds and scenic viewpoints before gathering for a delicious group dinner at the Battery Bistro, located within the fort itself!
As evening falls, experience the unforgettable Fort Henry Heritage Sunset Ceremony. This internationally acclaimed military pageant features precision marching, stirring music by the Fort Henry Guard Band, dramatic artillery demonstrations, cannon fire, and a spectacular fireworks finale over Kingston Harbour, weather permitting. It's an unforgettable celebration of Canada's military heritage.
After a relaxing overnight stay and a breakfast at our hotel, discover why Kingston is known as the Limestone City during a narrated sightseeing bus tour with an expert local guide. Learn about the city's role as Canada's first capital while viewing its magnificent limestone architecture, historic landmarks, and picturesque waterfront. You'll then have free time to enjoy the waterfront and soak up the lively summer atmosphere. Lunch will be on your own from the many restaurants, bistros and cafes in the downtown area.
Before returning home, we'll visit the renowned Kingston Penitentiary for a guided tour of one of Canada's oldest and most historic prisons. Closed in 2013 after more than 175 years of operation, this National Historic Site offers a fascinating look into the lives of inmates, guards, and the evolution of Canada's correctional system.
We will be stopping for a morning break on the way to Kingston and for a dinner break on our way back to Toronto.
