In 1917, Chicago socialite Josephine Eleanor “Cissy” Patterson arrived in Jackson Hole expecting luxury, but found something far more lasting. Stranded at the Bar BC Ranch, she fell in love with the valley—and ranch hunting guide Cal Carrington—eventually becoming one of Jackson’s most fascinating figures: a leading newspaper writer, editor and publisher and the legendary Countess of Flat Creek.
