North Star 2026: Delights & Frights: Your Family Stories
Every family story holds moments of discovery, mystery, joy, and surprise.
Join the Minnesota Genealogical Society for the Nineteenth Annual North Star Conference, Delights & Frights: Your Family Stories, taking place October 30–31, 2026, at the Eagan Community Center.
This in-person conference brings together family historians, professional genealogists, educators, and researchers for two full days of learning, conversation, and community.
Featured speakers Katherine R. Willson and Mark Thompson will lead sessions exploring historical context, repositories, passenger arrival records, artificial intelligence, research technology, and the stories hidden within family records.
Attendees can also choose from breakout sessions covering:
DNA research
Migration and military stories
Digital archives and genealogy software
Native American research
Conflicting evidence
Maiden names and overlooked women
Folklore and witch trial records
Difficult family discoveries
Genealogical frauds and fabrications
Research strategies for recurring brick walls
The conference also includes vendors and exhibitors, an Ask a Genealogist lunch, the MGS Awards Presentation, a social gathering, moderated speaker conversations, and door prizes.
Pre-Conference Day
Come early for a full-day pre-conference with Mark Thompson on Thursday, October 29, at the Minnesota Genealogical Center in Mendota Heights.
The pre-conference will explore practical ways genealogists can use artificial intelligence to analyze documents, examine photographs, organize evidence, and strengthen research workflows.
