1947- A New Three Act Play At the Arnolfini

They were never going to live. Not because the world was cruel — though it was — but because they had been taught, by want, by duty, by the sheer cost of arriving, that life was something you earned before you lived it.
1947 is a three-act play about a British Pakistani family in Bristol navigating the collapse of the hackney taxi plate economy, the cost-of-living crisis and the inherited weight of Partition. A father who drove the same streets for thirty years. A mother who held everything together without once being asked if she wanted to. A son trying to become the thing the sacrifice was supposed to be for. A daughter who spent her whole life being the steady one.
