Week 3 – Sat 21st Nov – Melbourne Rainbow Band, 70 member strong concert band for musicians to develop their musical abilities in an environment free of prejudice and discrimination, and to promote the LGBTQIA+ community to the wider population

HISTORY...
LOCATED IN THE SANDRINGHAM BEACH PARK
The Sandringham Band Rotunda, on the foreshore at the end
of Melrose Street, was erected in 1926 to replace the original
Rotunda on the same site, built in 1908. The present Rotunda
contains a drinking fountain that was a gift to the people of
Sandringham from Dr Thomas Garnet Leary, a well known local
medical doctor who was very active in the community.
The Rotunda was designed by Sandringham’s first City Engineer,
William Sunderland, who pioneered the use of reinforced
concrete for all types of construction. It was a big project in 1926
and, when completed, band recitals became a popular feature
on Sunday afternoons during the summer months. The 46th
Battalion Brass Band and the Sandringham Boys’ Band were
regular performers.
