Children in kindergarten through the eighth grade are invited to the Leavenworth Mini Raider Bootcamp.
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 5, 2026, at Leavenworth High School, 2012 10th Ave. The annual event is hosted by the Raider team of the Leavenworth High School Junior ROTC program.
Retired 1SG Wayne Cogdill, who is an instructor for the program, said about 300 children participated in last year’s Mini Raider Bootcamp.
1SG Cogdill, who coaches the Raider team, said he has a goal this year of attracting 400 children to the event.
He said the event will expose the children to what the high school’s Raider team members do, but on a smaller scale. He said this includes an obstacle course and a one-rope bridge activity.
“They’re going to mirror what my team does,” he said.
He said the Raider team has built obstacles for the younger children.
While the Mini Raider Bootcamp is intended for students in kindergarten through the eighth grade, 1SG Cogdill said even younger children have participated in the event in the past.
Parents can sign up their children for the Mini Raider Bootcamp and purchase “future Raider” T-shirts in advance. But 1SG Cogdill said registration is not required. He said children can show up and be ready to have fun for three hours. Parents who accompany their children will be welcome to observe the event.
1SG Cogdill recommends children dress in athletic attire and bring water bottles.
