1898 Family Reunion & Healing Festival Coming to Wilmington
WILMINGTON, N.C. — WilmingtoNColor and Coming to the Table — Wilmington, NC will present the 1898 Family Reunion & Healing Festival on November 7, 2026, from 1–5 p.m. at Chowtown.
The gathering is designed to reconnect descendants of the people who lived, worked, worshiped, operated businesses and raised families in Wilmington before and during the 1898 Massacre and Coup.
Families connected to victims, survivors, displaced residents and perpetrators are invited to come together for an afternoon centered on historical truth, remembrance, reconciliation and healing. The event will also honor the thriving Black community that existed in Wilmington before the violence of 1898.
The family-friendly festival will feature:
- Genealogist and historian stations
- History exhibits
- Prayer and drum circles
- Food trucks and vendors
- Music, games and bounce houses
- Additional activities for all ages
WilmingtoNColor and Coming to the Table are seeking media partners, vendors, historians, genealogists, faith organizations, cultural institutions, sponsors, volunteers and other collaborators to help bring this important gathering to life.
