17th IIUSFF x Resistance Cinema Fest

Dhaka University Film Society (DUFS), Activate Rights, and Omega Research Foundation are jointly convening the 17th IIUSFF x Resistance Cinema Fest on 26 June 2026, the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture to mark the launch of new category ‘Reels of Resistance’ at TSC, University of Dhaka.
The program will begin with an introduction to the 17th International Inter University Short Film Festival (IIUSFF) and the newly launched ‘Reels of Resistance’ category. The session will provide an overview of the festival's vision, the objectives of the new category, and opportunities for student filmmakers to engage with themes of human rights, social justice, resistance, inequality, displacement, environmental justice, and community resilience through their work.
This will be immediately followed by a storytelling workshop on resistance cinema, led by Hugh Macleod (IRCT), Neil Corney (Omega Research Foundation), and Mosfiqur Rahman Johan. Exploring the power of storytelling as a tool for documenting injustice, preserving memory, amplifying marginalized voices, and inspiring social change, the workshop will examine how cinema can contribute to human rights advocacy and resistance movements across different contexts.
The event will feature screenings of Nostalgia for the Light (2010), A Taxi Driver (2017), and Reborn Eyes: Story of a Movement in Resistance (2023), followed by moderated panel discussion featuring representatives from Omega Research Foundation and a survivor.
In collaboration with the International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims (IRCT), SAPRAN, SURGE Bangladesh and supported by the #UnitedAgainstTorture consortium (funded by the European Union), this day-long creative intervention will bring together victims, survivors, young human rights defenders, filmmakers, and civil society actors around the themes of torture prevention, transitional justice, and solidarity.
Open to students, filmmakers, human rights advocates, civil society actors, and anyone interested in the intersection of cinema, justice, and social change.
