250 years ago, the spark was lit and a new America was forged in the flames.
If you want to be in the actual room where it happened, we would love for you to audition for the Tony award winning Best Musical
1776
Imagine a divided and cantankerous Congress running amok
as each member “piddles twiddles and resolves” to get what is best
for themselves and the colonies they represent. 1776 chronicles the drafting of the Declaration of Independence and the debates and struggles to get it done. Using wit and humor, 1776 focuses on the political and personal conflicts of our “Foundings” and the Second Continental Congress in Philadelphia.
It’s messy, it’s hilarious, it’s dramatic and… it’s timeless and timely. This production is where iconic Broadway shows like Hamilton and Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson collide. And this show needs you!
This adaptation will feature non-traditional casting- all genders, cultural identities, and individuals will be considered for all roles.
While not a traditionally a “dance show” this production will be highly choreographed with movement and timing.
This show will be NOTHING like anything you can find on Youtube or on Film.
Let it go and help us form a new interpretation and vision.
Please prepare 16 bars of your biggest and best audition song.
Bring sheet music. Accompanist will be provided or you may use a track with no other vocals on it.
All who audition will be asked to deliver the following monologue at their audition. Please memorize or be very familiar with the text. Take time and work on this because this will be a very big part of casting decisions. We are seeking bold and interesting choices in your interpretation.
JOHN ADAMS:
I have come to the conclusion that one useless man is called a disgrace, that two are called a law firm, and that three or more become a congress. And by God, I have had this Congress! For ten years King George and his Parliament have diddled these Colonies with their illegal taxes--and when we dared stand up like men they stopped our trade, seized our ships, blockaded our ports, burned our towns, and spilled our blood- and still this Congress won't grant any of my proposals on Independence even so much as the courtesy of open debate! Good God, what in hell are they waiting for?
