16th Annual Local Ingredient Chili Challenge set for March 15th! Who's in?!On Saturday, March 15th, from 12 to 3PM, Water Street Market will host its 16th Annual Local Ingredient Chili Challenge honoring Marcy Fall.
Contestants: We will be accepting up to 20 participants. Cost to enter is $50 for the Board of Health permit, but you will need to donate a minimum of 5 gallons of your best chili and be there to serve it. (We encourage even more since it sells out so fast!) The chili must contain at least five local ingredients (such as tomatoes, peppers, honey, beer, turkey, beef, etc.) Keep in mind that the more local ingredients you have, the more weight it carries with the judges.
The chili will be judged for first and second place under these categories: best overall, best vegetarian, best professional (restaurant or professional chef), people's choice and most original. This year we are adding a new category - starting off with the judges doing a BLIND TASTING! Please note that home chefs must have use of a commercial kitchen to make the chili. If you do not, we can help get you use of one.
Community: Come taste and vote for People's Choice!
All proceeds from this event will go to The St. Joseph's non-denominational food pantry which is in dire need of supplies to feed hundreds of local families. This event typically raises at least $3,000.
