3TON Cinema Neo-Benshi Night w/ spoken word by Adrian Randall, Chlöe Nicole Mande and Farah Abouzeid. All films presented on beautiful 16mm film!
Benshi is the art of combining live vocal performance with silent film projection. This program will feature various performers/readers engaging with footage from 3TON Cinema’s 16mm film collection. Beaux Mingus will also be sharing short selections from the 16mm collection of the Echo Park Film Collective.
Adrian Randall is a Honduran-American filmmaker and editor currently living in Los Angeles. His feature documentary "A Human Year is Seven Earth Years" (84 min.) won the top prize at the Bienal de la Imagen en Movimento in Buenos Aires and has played in a number of festivals around the world.
Chlöe Nicole Mandel is currently a doctoral student in Applied Clinical Psychology at The Chicago School in downtown Los Angeles. She is the general manager of KCHUNG Radio and hosts a monthly radio program, Casual Goth.
Farah Abouzeid (she/her) studied Literature and Writing at UCSD and received her MFA in Creative Writing from CalArts. Her work has been published in Dreamboy Book Club, Strip Mall Magazine, Fruitslice, Prism, and The South Carolina Review.
3TONcinema is a roving DIY microcinema with a collection of hundreds of ephemeral films from the 20th century, all on 16MM. Founded in Oakland in 2009 by Gavin Gamboa and Archly Terpsichore, 3TON has exhibited in a variety of venues (in twelve states), including Coaxial Gallery, Mack Sennett Studios, Three Rivers Film Festival, Ochoco National Forest, Union Docs, Ragtag Cinema, and the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee.
