15th Annual Markesbery Symposium on Aging and Dementia Scientific Session

Researchers will come together to share current research findings and the latest updates on dementia, particularly as related to Alzheimer's disease and healthy brain aging. The event is free and open to the public; however, registration is required to attend.
There will be two keynote speakers. Julie Schneider, MD, MS, Professor, Rush University Departments of Pathology and Neurological Sciences, Director, Rush University Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, will present: "Hippocampal Breakdown at the Crossroads of Proteinopathy and Inflammation in Aging." Dr. Andrew Saykin, PsyD, Director of the Indiana Alzheimer's Disease Research Center at Indiana University, will present: "Precision Health Strategies for Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias: From Systems Biology to Biomarkers and Therapeutic Targets."
Elizabeth Rhodus, PhD, MS, OTR/L, assistant professor of behavioral ccience, will present "Creating Harmony While Living with Dementia" followed by Peter T. Nelson, MD, PhD, professor of pathology and laboratory medicine, who will share " The Amyloid Cascade Hypothesis: Arguments for and against, with public health implications."
There will be a poster competition for outstanding work by students (graduate or undergraduate) and postdocs (PhD or MD trainees/fellows). The abstract submission deadline is October 6. Please submit to Charlotte Wood at [email protected].

The Markesbery Symposium is held annually in memory of the late William R. Markesbery, MD, founding director of the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging and Alzheimer's Disease Research Center. Dr. Markesbery's legacy of groundbreaking research has formed the bedrock for our quest to understand and treat Alzheimer's disease and to improve the quality of life of older adults.
