It keeps on evolving and growing year by year. The 12th Japan Day @ Lancashire University, the annual cultural event, is now calling your active participation rather than just visiting on the day. Would you like to walk the Runway in your favourite Japan themed attire and get a lot of attention or host your own Japan-themed stall? Please get in touch with the organiser as soon as you can: Takako Amano, Senior Lecturer in Japanese Studies, [email protected]
NEW in 2026: There will be a real size Torii Gate (you can walk through underneath it and do photoshoot) as the main feature. We are honoured to host Miria Miria's art performance that compliments her object exhibition. We also welcome a workshop and an exhibition by an award-wining artist, Olivier Jamin.
Aquinas College is hosting a learning stall of Japanese Onomatopoeia. You can experience different types of Japanese Music with our team of Music Discussion and Exchanges. We welcome the Kobold’s Kettle board game café from Lytham: you can experience various Japanese board games such as Tokaido, Inori and Maki-Stack. Japan-themed stalls are going to sell Japan related goods. Craft experiences this year include Nioi-Bukuro and Kazarimusubi at a fraction of cost.

If you have been curious but had no opporunity before then why not pre-book your place to experience learning the language: there will be taster sessions for complete beginners of Japanese by our dedicated team. There are our usual hands-on workshops such as Sa-do: Tea ceremony, Sho-do: Calligraphy, Origami and Furoshiki eco wrapping. You can also see stalls of Manga/Anime, Japanese Sign Language (JSL) vs British Sign Language (BSL) and J-Pop Dances. You can learn about hidden gems of Japan at our information stalls. There will be job opporunities under the JET scheme by the Embassy. When the space is free, you are welcome to take photos in the Wedding Gown with the Torii Gate or next to the Nodate-gasa (Outdoor tea ceremony umbrella). You can also pre-book our very popular Differently graded matcha tasting, Taiko Drumming and Premium Sake Lecture and Tasting (This session is only offered to over 18s and hosted within the last entry slot only).
To get the feel of what the day may be like, in addition to the reel from the 11th Japan Day, please also see our past Japan Day news on BBC: https://www.facebook.com/ThatsTVLancashire/videos/2547909155537437
Poeple with limited mobilities: you are very welcome. Please park your car behind the Foster Building that is also close to Darwin Building via the Leighton Street. Please do not forget to display your disability parking permit. You can entre the venue from the back door and register your arrival once you have entred the Foster Social Space.
