About this Event
In the heart of Kate Sheppard’s former home and hub of the suffrage campaign we commemorate the historic milestone set on 19 September 1893, Aotearoa New Zealand proudly marked its place as the world's pioneer in granting women the right to vote in parliamentary elections. This pivotal moment in history was achieved through relentless activism led by visionaries such as Kate Sheppard and Meri Te Tai Mangakāhia, alongside other impassioned leaders advocating for gender equality.
Now, 131 years later, we honour the Suffrage with a compelling exhibition of 131 contemporary printmakers’ works from across Aotearoa that celebrates and reflects upon the lives, legacy and stories of wāhine of our past, present, and ongoing journey towards equality, equity and justice.
