13 Years Hence - The Underground / 123 Community Returns to the Mon River
It is the latest in a series of events that keep our Underground Railroad / 123 Pleasant Street community connected & growing. In 2013 we had a Memorial Reunion 25 years after the disappearance of Marsha & had a gathering at the Mon River. With the passing of Randy, it seems fitting to come together again. We hope you will use the pinned post in the event Discussion to share pictures & memories of him.
Yes - we are taking a chance, but we are again inviting people to come down to the river to play / pray and be together from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday the 21st. Twin Spruce Marina, 48 Round Bottom Road, Morgantown WV 26508. We really hope to be able to gather at the river. A few shelters will be set up - altho there may be an indoor space if it is pouring rain or freezing.
The event will be partially catered by Tasia of Madeleine Marie’s, who had a close connection with Randy. It will have a variety of delicious soups, the NY gang is importing bagels, and we'll have Randy/Squeak's favorite: peach cobbler. We are also asking people to bring a dish; can contact Peggy if you want suggestions about what to bring. Peggy also welcomes any offers of help since she is taking on the bulk of pulling this off.
Squeak's brother Terry will help curate a quiet space for people to gather & share the many ways in which Randy enriched our community. Weather permitting, we will also circle up, again sing Ripple as we did in 2013 (@Andy Park will again be joining us to lead that).
Please bring your beverage(s) of choice. We will have hot drinks & water. Might also bring your own cup, water bottle or soup bowl, but disposable products will be available. Also good to bring a chair. For the ceremony we welcome percussive & other instruments, flowers to float down the river again, whatever you think will add to the celebration. Whether there will be a sound system is TBD, but we'll likely keep word-sharing to a minimum in the circle.
If it is a lovely late-fall day, there is much recreation: Peggy has put some info about that in the "Discussion". The food & ceremony will happen first, but "you can stay as long as you like" (though we will be starting clean-up shortly after 3 p.m. since dark comes early). There will be a bonfire all day.
Please use this discussion to add more pics, reminisce, ask questions ... We will add more details here as needed. In these days when the veil is thin through to the time of gratitude & thanksgiving seems like the perfect time to appreciate Marsha, Randy, and all of us who have kept & will continue to keep the URR/123 community the conscious & caring community that we are. @Lisa Marie Giuliani thinks that Randy will more than likely bring the sun out. Sure hope so!
Please invite folks - and confirm you are coming or not ASAP so we will have a rough idea of how many to expect. If you can help beforehand, contact Peggy via FB message.
Remember there is a WVU game that day - so plan accordingly! (AI says kickoff time is TBD.)
Our biggest gratitude goes to LJ (@Louis Giuliani) for preserving and expanding the amazing legacy that is The Underground Railroad / 123 Pleasant Street. Morgantown would not be the same without it.
Hope you are able to come together, right now, for Randy, for Marsha, for us. See you soon!
