Jumpforjoy Festival
The Jumpforjoy Festival is an initiative of Diene Saga, created in loving memory of his mother, the professional dancer Yaye Dib. The festival aims to spread the diversity of West African dance worldwide and create an inclusive community in Germany.
The festival has been taking place since 2011 in Uk 🇬🇧 London
And @has developed over the years into a transnational, artistic exchange within the Afro-European network. Diene Saga works with both African and European partners to further develop transnational collaborations.
The festival took place for the first time in 2023 in a small and privately financed version in Bonn, Diene Saga's current home city
In 2024 and 2025, we as Kulturzentrum Brotfabrik would like to support him and establish the festival as part of Bonn's cultural landscape. Diene Sage already regularly gives African dance classes as part of the Bildungswerk Brotfabrik's course and workshop program. Over the years, he has been able to win over Bonn residents for African dance.
The festival brings together international artists and presents professional African dance and drumming as well as a diverse participatory program. In addition to dance and music, it includes discourse formats, children's workshops, bazaars and culinary experiences.
Jumpforjoy Festival is not only a cultural experience, but also a platform for transcultural dialog and postcolonial discourse formats in the Afro-European context. It strives for aesthetic multiperspectivity, complexity and the preservation of diversity.
In summary, the Jumpforjoy Festival is a dynamic initiative that not only celebrates African dance culture, but also creates a bridge for transcultural exchange, fosters artistic collaboration and builds an inclusive community in Germany 🇩🇪
