This year marks 11 years of Indigenous Peoples Day Arizona. 11 years of gathering, learning, organizing, celebrating, and making space for our community.
Our 2026 theme, “As Long As The Sun Shines,” is an affirmation.
As long as the sun continues to rise, so does our responsibility to the earth, the water, one another, and our place as human beings within the natural order.
We speak of responsibility rather than rights because rights often center the individual, while responsibility asks us to think about the collective. It asks: What are we responsible for protecting? What are we responsible for carrying forward? And what do we owe to those who will come after us?
Colonization has worked to remove us from our lands, languages, teachings, relationships, and responsibilities. And yet, every morning, the sun rises, and we are still here.
We wake up. We remember. We do the work we can with what we have. We continue because that is what our people have always done.
And just as we have done throughout the previous Indigenous Peoples Day Arizona gatherings, this day is for the community.
Come hear from people doing important work for our communities. Listen to Indigenous speakers, artists, musicians, organizers, land and water defenders, and community members who continue creating for themselves, their families, and their people.
