10th Annual Walk in Penn's Woods

Join Manada Conservancy and The Dauphin County Woodland Owners Association for a guided 2 mile Walk in Penn’s Woods on Sunday, October 4th, at two conserved properties near Piketown in Dauphin County.

The walk will take participants through both a privately owned property protected by a Manada Conservancy conservation easement and Manada’s nearby Rohrer Tract, giving visitors an opportunity to see two different approaches to long-term land conservation and stewardship firsthand.

This event is part of the Annual Statewide Walk in Penn’s Woods, which brings Pennsylvanians together each fall to explore the Commonwealth’s forests and learn more about the people and practices that help sustain them.

The walk begins at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 4. Participants should meet at the large parking lot at 7478 Appalachian Trail West, Harrisburg, PA a few minutes before the start.

The event will be held rain or shine; sturdy shoes and comfortable hiking clothes are recommended.

DCNR Service Forester, Andy Brought, will lead the walk and discussion, with topics including healthy forest management, wildlife habitat, invasive species control, creating and maintaining conservation easements, and government cost-share opportunities available to Pennsylvania woodland owners. Participants will also have an opportunity to learn more about how landowners, conservation organizations, and public agencies can work together to protect and improve privately owned forestland. Naturalist, Ian Gardner, will also be joining us for our walk this day.
