Indie Meme is honored to have critically acclaimed Indian filmmaker producer and actor Anurag Kashyap presenting his latest film “Kennedy” at the Opening Night of their 10th Annual Indie Meme Film Festival (IMFF) on Friday April 11 at the Austin Film Society Cinema (located at 6259 Middle Fiskville Rd Austin TX 78752). The film is a neo-noir thriller that takes audiences on a journey through the dark underbelly of Mumbai's corrupt police force during the COVID-19 lockdown. The film introduces insomniac ex-cop Uday Shetty portrayed with brooding intensity by Rahul Bhat who is presumed dead allowing him to operate secretly within the corrupt federal system. Shetty’s alias "Kennedy" poses as a hitman for the morally bankrupt police commissioner Rasheed Khan played by Mohit Takalkar. As Kennedy navigates this perilous world he grapples with his own demons seeking a form of redemption amidst the chaos.
Indie Meme was established in 2013 when co-founders Alka Bhanot and Tripti Bhatnagar couldn’t find a supporting festival for South Asian filmmakers in Austin. The organization began hosting screenings of South Asian films throughout the year and eventually grew to present their first Indie Meme Film Festival (IMFF) in 2016. IMFF has since grown to include the most incredible talent working in South Asian cinema with virtual and live Q&A with filmmakers and actors from all over India Nepal Pakistan Sri Lanka Bangladesh Bhutan Afghanistan Iran and more. Since its inception IMFF has been a platform for socially relevant storytelling showcasing diverse voices from South Asia. The festival has sparked meaningful conversations on topics ranging from human rights to cultural identity creating a space where film serves as a bridge between communities.
