Discover a thousand years of Jewish life in London
About this Event

Discover a thousand years of Jewish life in London, from the arrival of England's first medieval Jewish community under William the Conqueror to the vibrant East End of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Beginning at the Tower of London, we'll discover why the first Norman king invited Jews to England, how the medieval community flourished, and why it was expelled just over two centuries later. Following the route taken by generations of new arrivals from the docks into the East End, we'll explore when - and why - the Jewish community returned.

From medieval merchants to immigrant families, this is a story of expulsion and return, migration and settlement, and the lasting legacy of London's Jewish community. Wander the alleys and backstreets of Spitalfields and Whitechapel, where synagogues, sweatshops and soup kitchens bring the history of Jewish London to life.

This guided walking tour will last approximately 2 hours and will begin outside the Tower of London at Tower Hill underground station
