09 Poetry Slam Regionals #1
About this Event
The 09 Poetry Slam Presents: Regional Heat #1
It's slam season and we can't wait for the heat Tāmaki's gonna bring
So if you have some poems you want to bring to life on the mic then mark August 27th as "Your time-" MY TIME TO SHINE.
If you find you are interested in partaking in the slam this year (ooo), the rules will be posted below.
If you find you are wanting to spit your poetry without competing, no stress we have an open mic before the slam. :)
And if you're keen to sit back and enjoy Tāmaki poetry at its finest, you should come through 'cause you won't want to miss it.
RULES
- Sign up on the night.
- Two round slam with eliminations in-between - you cannot repeat poems, therefore you must have two poems.
- You have three minutes to read your poem, then a ten second grace period. After the grace period, you'll receive a 0.5 point deduction tor every 10 seconds overtime you go.
- Poems must be original work.
- No props, costumes, music, or accompaniment of any kind that you cannot make with your body.
- Events are all ages to attend, but to compete in Slams you must be 18 or older and not in high school.
- No heckling and no hate speech.
- While it may sound scary, slam is just an excuse tor poets to get together and work on their craft - in the name of friendly competition.
- If you want to share a poem but don't want to compete, there is a short open mic at the start of every slam which anyone can participate in, and of course we always need judges!
- If you do not know anybody competing, you can be a judge. These are chosen and briefed by the MC on the night.
- Any disputes about the rules must be brought to a member of the 09 Team during the slam, and the designated adjudicator on the night will have final say.
