About this Event
Explore Arcadia Wildlife Sanctuary with Latino Outdoors Western Massachusetts, Massachusetts Audubon, and Hampshire Bird Club! Many birds in Massachusetts fly south when temperatures start to cool. As we welcome the fall season and cooler temperatures, we can see and learn more about how birds in Massachusetts get ready for a long migration to warmer places. Migration is an important part of the life cycle of many animals in our region - especially birds!
Join us for an afternoon outdoors and an introductory birding experience while we walk the trails at Arcadia! Lunch will be provided from 12-1PM. We will have some information to share on the amazing feats birds accomplish when migrating south! Then we will explore the trails together from 1-3PM to see if we can hear or see any birds around us that may be migrating soon. Don’t know what to look for? No problem - we will have some local birding experts on hand to guide us as we explore. Binoculars will be available to borrow until we run out.
Although Arcadia has 4 miles of wooded trails to explore, we will be moving at a slower pace and don’t expect to travel more than 1 mile together. The trails at Arcadia are unpaved and the terrain is mostly level. Similar to many other wooded places in Massachusetts, we need to be aware of ticks and poison ivy. Please plan to wear comfortable shoes and do a tick check when you get home. You are welcome to explore the Arcadia trails after the event on your own.
Once you've registered, please fill out our safety waiver here. Hope to see you there!
