Sanford Bicycle Club, it’s time to roll slow for something that matters.
As many of you have heard, the Central Florida Zoo is caring for nine surviving sloths rescued from the disastrous Sloth World warehouse operation in Orlando. These animals endured months of malnutrition, dehydration, and stress before being transferred to Sanford for emergency care. Thirteen sloths arrived; four were too sick to survive… but nine are still fighting.
Their names: Blackberry, Chewie, Dolce, Hazel, Leeloo, Mojo Jojo, Pearl, Phantom, and Willow.
Each one is receiving specialized diets, hydration therapy, medical monitoring, and the kind of compassion only a dedicated AZA‑accredited team can provide.
And now we’re riding for them.
🦥 THE PLAN
On Monday, June 15, we’ll roll out from Dees Brothers Brewing at 6 PM and take a slow, sloth‑paced cruise through downtown Sanford. We’ll stop at key corners to wave signs, raise awareness, and encourage drivers to honk in support of the sloths’ recovery. Feel free to bring your own sign, but some of us club members will be making signs that we can use before the ride.
We’ll also have QR codes ready so anyone who asks can donate directly to the zoo’s sloth care fund.
This isn’t a workout ride — it’s a purpose ride. A “move slow for those who can’t” kind of ride.

Not required, but highly encouraged:
• Got one of the Sanford sloth‑support shirts being sold around town? Wear it proudly.
• Got a regular sloth shirt? Perfect.
• Got any animal shirt — gator, flamingo, manatee, cat, dog, whatever? That works too.
• Got nothing animal‑themed? No problem. Your presence is what matters.
Let’s fill the streets with a little wildlife energy.
🦥 WHY WE’RE DOING THIS
The Central Florida Zoo is a Sanford treasure — a place that rescues animals, educates families, protects species, and serves as a sanctuary for wildlife in need. It doesn’t receive massive public funding. It survives because our community cares.
These rescued sloths are the latest reminder of why the zoo matters so much.
By showing up, we’re helping:
• Raise awareness
• Drive donations
• Support the zoo’s veterinary team
• Celebrate a beloved Sanford institution
We should all be proud of the zoo we have — and do everything we can to help it thrive.
