Join Smithsonian paleontologist Kirk Johnson and legendary Alaska artist Ray Troll for tales from their North American adventures uncovering Earth’s deep history. By combining science and art, this event brings together new stories with visuals that may be familiar to many Alaskans.🎨 Ray Troll is internationally known for his witty, science-inspired artwork. He has created the un-o’-fish-al art for Salmonfest, and his art appears on millions of T-shirts and in films. Ray co-hosts the popular Paleo Nerds podcast and fronts his band The Ratfish Wranglers. He and his wife Michelle live in Ketchikan, Alaska, and run the Prairie Sea Gallery in Kansas.
🦴 Kirk Johnson is a leading paleobotanist known for his research on plants and dinosaur extinction, his PBS documentaries, and his widely read science books. He is the Sant Director of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History, overseeing the world’s largest natural history collection.
Together, Johnson and Troll have created beloved books, including "Alaska Dinosaurs, Mammoths and More" and "Cruisin’ the Fossil Freeway". They are currently working on a fossil atlas of the United States, slated for publication in 2026.
A reception with the speakers will follow the talk!
