UA⬇We invite you to Ukrainian Voices RC to see a unique exhibition of Malanka masks — a vibrant expression of Ukrainian traditional culture, closely connected to the Belgian carnival world.
Malanka masks bring to life ancient winter rituals: through dressing up, dancing, and humor, our ancestors saw off the winter and welcomed the spring. These symbols are still alive in modern Belgian carnivals, and now you can experience them through the Ukrainian tradition at this exhibition in Brussels.
The project has already been showcased at 20 cultural events across Wallonia and Flanders, and now it comes to Brussels. At the exhibition, you will see Malanka herself, as well as Vasyl, Koza, the Witch, the Devil, and other characters, learning about their symbolic meanings.

🎨 Lead artist and project coordinator: Olesya Dyakun. The masks are made of cardboard and natural materials as part of the creative workshops at CSC Les Hirondelles ASBL (Charleroi).

🎭 Українська Маланка в Брюсселі: виставка масок
Запрошуємо до Ukrainian Voices RC на виставку унікальних масок Маланки — яскравого явища української традиційної культури, близького до бельгійського карнавального світу.
Маски Маланки відтворюють давні зимові обряди: через перевдягання, танці та гумор наші предки проводжали зиму й кликали весну. Ці символи живуть і в сучасних бельгійських карнавалах, а тепер їх можна побачити в українській традиції на виставці в Брюсселі.
Проєкт уже демонстрували на 20 культурних подіях у Валлонії та Фландрії, тепер його покажуть у Брюсселі. На виставці ви побачите саму Маланку, а також Василя, Козу, Відьму, Чорта та інших персонажів і дізнаєтеся про їхні символічні значення.
