What is it?
Join Cindy as she guides you through a 5-day intensive workshop inspired by Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey – the narrative structure behind thousands of legendary stories, from The Wizard of Oz to The Lord of the Rings.
Together, we’ll create a fantastical adventure filled with mythical creatures and imaginative landscapes, experienced live with the audience.
What you’ll learn as an improviser:
⭐ The 12 stages of the Hero’s Journey and how to apply them in improvisation
⭐ Building believable imaginary worlds (mime & truthfulness)
⭐ Developing archetypal characters (the trickster, the shapeshifter, the hero)
⭐ Playing a character’s true transformation on stage
Balancing instinctive play with strong storytelling tools

👩 Cindy Pittens is a Dutch improviser, who made it her mission to connect impro-mindset with being human. She has an energetic and warm presence and loves to put honest and fully embodied characters on stage.
Cindy is well known in Romania from this year’s Improteca The Festival, where she taught two workshops and performed in several shows, as well as teaching in an Improteca bootcamp after the festival.
Cindy’s first stint at Improteca was actually a residency last year called Improvising Realities, where she developed the Hero’s Journey show through 2-month workshops with experienced Romanian improvisers. This was done through the Culture Moves Europe program implemented by the Goethe Institut and created by the European Commission.
This is where she created the original Mad World performance during her residency at Improteca—she knows the world we’re building, inside out.
