About this Event

According to multiple research, humans perceive the world predominantly by sight, which forms 87% of our entire sensory perception. Yet the visually impaired rely on the other 13% to hear, smell, taste and touch in order to shape a splendid world of unlimited possibilities.

Beyond Vision International (BVI) launched the Beyond Nature Project in September 2020 in collaboration with WWF-Hong Kong. The programme included a series of redesigned multi-sensory eco-tour and eco-guide training particularly for the vision imparied (VI) community that encourage VI to step out of their comfort zone, explore alternative job opportunities. This exhibition showcases the process of the 2 years project. It also includes a documentary featuring the process of VI in becoming Eco-guide, installations and ‘Tactile - Audio Interactive System’ (TAIS) that reproduce some of the multi-sensory experiences implied in the programme.

‘Beyond Nature Project: Nourishing the Creative Mind of the Visually Impaired for Endless Possibilities’ is sponsored by The Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Hong Kong.

About Beyond Nature Project

Beyond Nature Project (BNP) is funded by Robert Ho Family Foundation Limited and collaborated with the Education Team of World Wild Fund for Nature Hong Kong (WWF - Hong Kong). The project was carried out in two phases:

Phase 1: Multisensory Exploration Sessions in nature (January – August 2021)

Based on the existing eco-tours of WWF Hong Kong, we redesigned the tours in multisensory approaches that allow VIs, their caretaker and family members to experience nature together. The venue of the tour changed according to the season:

January - April: Magic of Mai Po Tour

May - August: Island House Tour

July - August: Mai Po Night Safari Tour

Phase 2: Eco-tour Guide Training (October 2021 – March 2022)

8 selected VI were trained as eco-tour guides. Accessible learning materials and multi-sensory learning activities were implied throughout the intensive training. After a series of assessments and evaluations, qualified trainees will be offered a Part-time Eco-tour Guides employment officially by WWF-Hong Kong to share the beauty of nature and the importance of environmental protection to people regardless of their vision.
