Murasaki Sake Lounge presents シティーポップ: A Party Reborn.After more than a year of being on a hiatus, シティーポップ returns to Chicago to feature our continued monthly showcase of vintage Japanese vinyl in Chicago's oldest Japanese-owned and operated bars dating back to 1986. With an extensive collection of Japanese sake, shochu, and whiskey, the lounge caters to all level of cost and taste. Known today for it's moody atmosphere and personable staff, the lounge remains the premiere sake establishment in the Midwest.
Murasaki Sake Lounge, formally Cafe Shino in the past, has long been a hidden gem tucked away in Chicago's historic Streeterville Neighborhood. Originally created to cater to the large number of Japanese businessmen who were working for the over 400 Japanese companies that called Chicago home in the 80s, the lounge now serves a more young cosmopolitan generation of westerners looking for a unique experience in a retro-chic atmosphere.
Van Paugam has been DJing Japanese vinyl records from the 70s & 80s since 2016, and has played shows internationally including Paris & Tokyo. Having DJ'd at Murasaki since 2018, he features a rotating menu of Nippon Funk, Jazz-Fusion, and City Pop.
Join us every 2nd Saturday as we travel through time and space to emulate the glittering nightlight of Tokyo in the 80s.
