About this Event
"Breathing new life into broken things"—this is the essence of Kintsugi. This ancient Japanese technique, now gaining attention in LA, touches the heart as a way to heal both broken objects and broken hearts. In this workshop, you'll create one-of-a-kind accessories while learning the art of Kintsugi. Using fragments of broken pottery, you'll not only restore but transform them into something even more beautiful, embracing the spirit of sustainabilit
Why not start a new eco-friendly hobby that benefits both you and the planet? Through the creation of handmade accessories and the philosophy of Kintsugi, you can experience the beauty of restoration while discovering your own story.
Take the first step on a journey to give "new brilliance" to what was once broken.
In addition, the workshop includes a special Japanese bento. The bento will be prepared by professional chef Makoto Kanemaru, who hails from Yamanashi Prefecture, near the base of Mt. Fuji. Kanemaru began his culinary training at the age of 18 in a traditional Japanese restaurant in Tokyo, and with over 30 years of experience, he served as Executive Chef at a resort hotel in Nagano, where he had the honor of cooking for members of the Japanese Imperial Family. He is now based in San Francisco, where he continues to build a bridge of friendship between Japan and the United States through authentic Japanese cuisine. Recently, his restaurant has gained significant attention, being featured in numerous San Francisco media outlets.
The process of mending broken objects with gold to create new value provides a deep, healing experience for the heart. While immersing yourself in Japan’s rich traditions, enjoy a bento prepared by a professional chef and take part in a unique experience that soothes both mind and body.
