✨ GALERIA 26 | FIRST ARTIST RESIDENCY ANNOUNCEMENT ✨
Galeria 26 is proud to announce the launch of its first Artist Residency Programme, welcoming contemporary visual artist Fábio Fernandes as its inaugural resident artist.
Starting on 14 July 2026 at Galeria 26, Beato, Lisbon, this residency marks the beginning of a new platform dedicated to artistic research, experimentation, dialogue, and creative exchange.
Born on the island of Madeira, Portugal, in 1980, Fábio Fernandes has developed a distinctive artistic practice that explores the boundaries between darkness and redemption, mortality and hope, destruction and transformation. Educated at the School of Arts in Coimbra (IAC) and currently based in Machico, Madeira, his work combines elements of urban art, contemporary expressionism, and symbolic imagery.
Through bold visual narratives and emotionally charged compositions, Fernandes examines identity, memory, and the hidden stories that shape individuals and societies. His recurring use of skulls and memento mori symbolism is not centred on death itself, but on what remains when illusion, status, ideology, and ego are stripped away.
His paintings challenge viewers to embrace complexity and recognise that light and darkness are not opposites, but essential parts of the same human story.
We are honoured to welcome Fábio Fernandes to Galeria 26 and look forward to sharing his creative journey throughout this residency.
