This weekend will add something new to our previous adventures! We're off to North Wales to experience some of the best mountain and coastal scenery the UK has to offer.
Departing from London early on Saturday morning, we'll head to Snowdonia National Park. It is also known as ‘Eryri’, a Welsh name that can be translated as ‘the place of the eagles’. Covering 838 square miles, it is the largest and oldest national park in Wales. Today, we'll hike in the Ogwen Valley, famous for its towering mountains, crystal-clear lakes and dramatic glacial landscapes. We'll complete a horseshoe route, taking in the two highest peaks in the Glyderau mountain range – Glyder Fawr (1,001m) and Glyder Fach (994m). Both peaks are part of the Welsh 3,000s – the 15 highest peaks in Wales over 3,000 feet. Glyder Fach boasts an incredible rock formation Castell y Gwynt (‘Castle of the Winds’) and the famous Cantilever – a precariously balanced rock that numerous generations have attempted to topple, but to no avail. A must do photo opportunity! Throughout the whole walk, we'll enjoy majestic panoramic views of the Snowdon Massif, Glyderau and Carneddau peaks and three beautiful lakes (Llyn Ogwen, Llyn Idwal and Llyn Bochlwyd). After the hike, we'll drive to our hotel on the Isle of Anglesey, where we'll have dinner and rest.
On Sunday, we'll explore one of the most scenic stretches of the Isle of Anglesey Coastal Path. After a hearty breakfast at our hotel, we'll take a short drive to the South Stack Cliffs Nature Reserve. We'll follow a dramatic clifftop trail to the small rocky islands of South Stack and North Stack, and visit the South Stack Lighthouse – one of Wales' most photographed lighthouses. During this walk, we'll also ascend Holyhead Mountain, the highest point of the Isle of Anglesey. Despite its small height of 220 metres, it has a true mountain feel and offers stunning panoramic views over the bustling Holyhead Harbour and Snowdonia mountains. Our hike will finish at the beautiful sandy beach of Porth Dafarch, from where we'll head to Trearddur Bay for lunch.
