(NL) Hardcore. Zo noemde Jan Martens zijn grote doorbraak uit 2014. Elf jaar na de eerste opvoering herneemt de choreograaf deze wereldwijde publiekslieveling met acht nieuwe dansers. Opnieuw dient een uitputtend uur springen als middel om de mens achter de danser te tonen. Opnieuw vallen de maskers.
Martens liet zich voor THE DOG DAYS ARE OVER inspireren door Philippe Halsman. Die Amerikaanse fotograaf vroeg bekende mensen om te springen voor zijn camera. Doordat ze zich op niets anders dan hun sprong concentreerden, vergaten ze zichzelf. Maar ook als toeschouwer ben je verplicht je ware gelaat te tonen: vind je humor in de choreografie? Kan je genieten van andermans lijden? Wanneer wordt kunst entertainment? Dankzij de herinterpretatie van deze mijlpaal uit de repetitieve canon, brengt Martens een nieuwe generatie aan het zweten. Martens drew inspiration for THE DOG DAYS ARE OVER from Philippe Halsman. This American photographer asked famous individuals to jump for his camera.
