‘Twas the City Centre Ghost Walk before Christmas - 18/12/24

Plus hear of strange Christmas customs from around the globe, blending the warmth of the season with the shivers of supernatural encounters. Join us for a ghostly celebration that will send shivers down your spine and add a touch of the paranormal to your holiday festivities.

At the same time we shall be keeping alive the Victorian tradition of the Christmas ghost story.

In the Victorian era, the tradition of telling ghost stories during Christmas gained significant popularity, reflecting a cultural fascination with the supernatural. This phenomenon was intricately tied to the broader Victorian fascination with the macabre and the mysterious, spurred by the Romantic movement and a renewed interest in Gothic literature.

The long winter nights provided an ideal setting for gathering around the fireplace and sharing tales that blended elements of the eerie and the moralistic.

One of the most iconic contributions to this tradition is Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol," published in 1843 and, with my sincerest apologies to Charles Dickens, I shall be putting my own local spin on the tale.

I’ll also be pointing out a ghost, a voice from beyond the grave, that has been hiding in plain sight for decades.

This event starts / ends in Tudor Square, besides Sheffield Central Library, and takes a fully accessible route.

Tickets for these Christmas specials walks are £12 in advance or £14 on the night. Kids tickets are £8

There will also be a festive special to be held at The Dorothy Pax on Tuesday 12th December.
