‘There Is No New Water’: Hands-On Making Day for Plymouth Art Weekender
About this Event
We are preparing for a community meal with a difference! Come be part of the Toolkit for Ocean Citizen Action for the Plymouth Art Weekender (on October 17th) by joining us for this making day in preparation on the 26th of September at Sherwell Church.
Join artists Owen Griffiths, Anne-Marie Culhane and the team to make props, pose questions, and help co-curate the event. This is a hands-on creative workshop where we will be crafting, planning, and preparing to share the journey of the project and our ideas with a wider audience. We’ll explore and reference the keywords, themes, maps, the non-human inhabitants of the Sound that we have been learning about, and all the ideas we’ve explored to make a series of visual decorations and art pieces as part of the community meal in October.
Even if you haven’t been to many, or any, sessions before, come and join us to be part of the Art Weekender discussion and meal!

This session is part of an on-going enquiry with Owen Griffiths as part of There is No New Water – Toolkit for Ocean Citizen Action. This 12-month project invites local people to explore what the ocean means to them, reflect on their role as coastal citizens, and co-create a community-led artwork/toolkit focused on ocean justice, care, and climate action.
All sessions are free and open to anyone based in Plymouth who is passionate about Ocean Civic Justice and happy to spend time in the East End.
Ocean Cultures is a two-year programme funded by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, aiming to establish a community-led model for ocean climate justice in Plymouth, UK.
