About this Event
2 days of attendance required. Saturday 9th May and Saturday 13th June.
Together we will:
Forage and identify plant, tree and animal species, create shelters, experiment with light, shadow and drawing, listen with nature and create sounds and sing together, dance, mix, dye and make potions, eat, share stories and learn alongside each other.
Both workshops will be playful, experiential and connected to the natural living world through art and forest school approaches. Please dress to be outside for the morning and layer up as it can be both warm and chilly in spring and summer!
In addition, we will reflect on the practicalities of working outside in nature during the seasons and share ideas for exploring nature outside and what ‘sustainability’ looks like and means in practice for early childhood educators.
Soil Studio is an arts collective between theatre, music and socially engaged artist, researcher author and early childhood arts lecturer Jackie Maguire and Forest School Educator, actor, researcher and lecturer Trisha MacLaughlin that was set up in 2024.
We are interested in exploring the relationship between the human and more than human world and are passionate about the arts, the environment and working with babies, toddlers, young children and their families. Inspired by critical ecological theory we see our work as being ‘local’ and having a real impact in and around County Sligo.
