This week Wake In Fright, St. Morris Sinners and Sour Worm are stopping by for a show.
Wake In Fright is a Tarntanya-based art-folk band. They seek to examine the complexities and contradictions of modern life through the sonic and lyrical lens of folk music. The band features Sam Wilson on vocals and guitar, Luka Kilgariff-Johnson on electric guitar and banjo, Thea Martin on violin, Allan McBean on Upright Bass, and Jachin Mee on drums and backing vocals. Wake In Fright self-released the EP ‘Wake In Fright Are A Band In The Room’ in 2022, the full-length album ‘It Can Happen Here’ in 2023 and their latest album ‘Touch Hands Pack Sting’ in 2024, which they toured to Tokyo, Japan.
St. Morris Sinners formed in late 2011 and quickly made a name for themselves through their high energy live performances. They have played alongside notable musicians over the years such as: Tex Perkins, Mick Harvey, Mark Arm of Mudhoney (USA), Spencer P. Jones, Kim salmon, Dave Graney, King Khan (Canada) Kid Congo Powers (USA) and Sleaford Mods (UK). To date they have released a self titled EP (2013) three albums For Lease (2014) Songs About Insects (2016) and Zbilanc (2022) a single 80 Hours A Week (2018) and Best of Vinyl through French record label Beast Records (2019). Sinners were voted peoples choice band at French Rock festival Binic Folk & Blues 2019 and since then been playing regularly. As of 2024 they have been finishing of their 4th studio album set for release later this year and have recently based themselves in Melbourne.
Sour Worm is the solo project of songwriter and visual artist Jasper van Daatselaar. Their new LP, Let Me See The Light is a collection of 12 pop-leaning folk-rock songs that paints an earnest portrait of an artist shifting through periods of personal change. “Teeth move, times change, you stay the same.”
Social Sanctuary is proud to be sponsored by Mountain Goat.
Our show is being held on the lands of the Wurundjeri People and we wish to acknowledge them as the Traditional Owners of this land we are gathered on. We also pay our respects to their Elders, past and present, and Aboriginal Elders of other communities that may join us for our show.
