A day in the life of Carla Valentine – pathology museum curator and autopsy technician – is not your average day. She spent ten years working as an Anatomical Pathology Technologist: where the autopsy table was her desk, and that day’s bodies her task list. This talk goes behind the scenes in the mortuary to tell Carla’s stories of those years, as well as discussing the process of investigating the body, alongside our attitudes towards death, shedding light on what the living can learn from dead, and the toll the work can take on the living souls who carry it out. About the Speaker
Carla Valentine is a Senior Anatomical Pathology Technologist, Pathology Museum Curator, and author. Her book ‘Murder Isn’t Easy: The Forensics of Agatha Christie’ was a Barnes & Noble pick in the USA (as ‘The Science of Murder’), and her BBC Sounds podcast ‘Mortem’ was nominated for a Webby Award. ‘Past Mortems’ was her first book, and was nominated for the Gold Dagger Award for non-Fiction (2018). Her forthcoming book ‘The Language of Bones’ will be released in 2026. www.carlavalentine.co.uk
