As part of the Music Theory Symposium 2026 programme, Ukrainian pianist and composer Vadim Neselovskyi presents his suite Perseverantia for piano and string trio. Known for his extraordinary artistry (as praised by The Guardian), Neselovskyi brings a deeply personal yet universally resonant musical statement.
Inspired by the ongoing tragedy in Ukraine, Perseverantia goes beyond political context. It becomes a reflection on resilience, courage, and hope, expressed through a striking musical language that blends Eastern European lyricism with avant-garde textures, minimalist clarity, and driving, almost metal-like rhythmic energy.
The suite was produced by John Zorn and recorded at the Bethlehemkerk in Amsterdam with the Ysaÿe Trio: Rada Ovcharova (violin), Emlyn Stam (viola), and Willem Stam (cello).
“Placing exhilarating piano improvisations in the context of gorgeous compositions for classical string trio, Perseverantia is Vadim’s greatest work to date.” – Tzadik Records
