Michael Howard (Professor Emeritus, Simon Fraser University) will present a talk on “Southeast Asian Bark-Cloth” at … Bark-cloth (cloth made from beaten bark fiber) is an important part of Southeast Asia’s textile heritage. He will provide a brief review of the origins and diffusion of bark-cloth in the region, the materials used for making bark-cloth, instances of its disappearance and survival since the 19th century, and its revival among certain groups in recent years as well as compare the importance of bark-cloth in Southeast Asia and the South Pacific.
