“Art history” is a field of study that examines the development of visual arts over time, focusing on artistic styles, techniques, forms, themes, as well as the cultural, social, and political influences on art. Art history traces how various artistic styles evolved across different periods and how they were influenced by societal and civilizational conditions, from ancient times in Egypt and Mesopotamia, through the eras of Greece and Rome, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, and on to modern and contemporary periods.
Through the study of art history, researchers can understand the evolution of human taste, changes in how humans depict nature, present ideas, and interact with technological and scientific advancements, reflecting the overall progress of human civilization.

“تاريخ الفن” هو مجال دراسة يتناول تطور الفنون البصرية عبر الزمن، مع التركيز على الأساليب الفنية، والتقنيات، والأشكال، والمواضيع، وكذلك التأثيرات الثقافية والاجتماعية والسياسية على الفن. يتتبع تاريخ الفن كيف تطورت الأنماط الفنية المختلفة في فترات مختلفة من الزمن، وكيف تأثرت بظروف المجتمع والحضارة، من العصور القديمة في مصر وبلاد الرافدين، مروراً بعصور اليونان والرومان، إلى العصور الوسطى، ثم عصر النهضة، والفترات الحديثة والمعاصرة.
من خلال دراسة تاريخ الفن، يتمكن الباحثون من فهم تطور الذوق البشري والتغيرات في كيفية تصوير الإنسان للطبيعة، وتقديم الأفكار، والتفاعل مع التطورات التكنولوجية والعلمية، مما يعكس تطور الحضارة الإنسانية بشكل عام.
