Henna is the graduation performance of Nouf Rafea from the MA Music Theatre program at ArtEZ School.
The performance is an immersive ritual music theatre piece exploring the ancient tradition of ululations in the Arab world that delves into the duality of this cultural practice, juxtaposing celebration with underlying themes of gender-based violence.
The performance aims to transform the ululation ritual into a powerful statement on gender equality, using the concept of polyphony to present multiple perspectives and voices in a harmonious yet thought-provoking manner.
