George King was a Liverpool Irish Republican, who, along with his 3 brothers (as part of a large Liverpool Volunteers contingent) fought in Dublin as part of the Easter Rising in 1916. After the Rising ended, he was interned in Frongoch prison camp, and jails in England. Upon release he rejoined the Irish Revolutionary struggle, first with his unit in Liverpool, and then back in Ireland. He fought throughout the Tan War. Then the disastrous and imposed Treaty of December 1921 saw the brutal partition of Ireland and denied the sovereignty of the Irish nation. George and his comrades rejected that treaty, and kept faith with the Irish Republic. He continued to serve as a Volunteer of Óglaigh na hEireann until the night of 6th February 1923, when he was killed by counter-revolutionary forces at Rathmines, Dublin. He was 27 years old. Join us in Liverpool on 4th February 2023, as we remember Óglach George King, a true Liverpool Irish Republican who always kept the faith in Ireland United in peace and freedom.
