Spend your Saturday afternoons salsa dancing at the Hispanic Society! Whether you're a first-time dancer or experienced salsero, all levels are welcome. See here for this summer's dates:

Saturday, June 27th: 4pm-6pm

Saturday, July 25th: 3pm-5pm

Saturday, August 29th: 3pm-5pm

Saturday, September 26th: 4pm-6pm

All events begin with a 30-min introductory dance lesson before going into open dance accompanied by a live band.

Note this is an outdoor program. Please dress accordingly.

Saturday, June 27th

Jorge Riascos has been teaching dancers of all levels and ages since 2005. A world champion salsa dancer from Cali, Colombia, he brings the experience and knowledge of all styles of latin dance.

La Sonora Nuyorkina is a contemporary salsa band. Their repertoire spans from all time classics to today’s most popular hits, to their own original material. Coming from different parts of Latin America and North America, each band member brings their unique taste, talent, and experience to give La Sonora its vibrant sound.

Saturday, July 25th

Abril Amparo is a freelance dancer born in the Dominican Republic and raised in New York City. Amparo began dancing after high school by way of the afro-latin social dance scene. Shortly after, she was exposed to Hip-Hop and Contemporary Dance where she performed repertory work by Marjani Forté-Saunders and company work by Jamie Chandler. She has performed in visuals by music artists Lion Babe, Jessie Woo and has modeled for Nike. She currently is with Baila Society and is a member of Dancers Unlimited. Abril obtained an AAS from the Fashion Institute of Technology, SUNY and a BA from Hunter College, CUNY in Fine Arts. This is her second year teaching at Dance Project of Washington Heights.

Lulada Club is NYC’s premier all-women salsa group that reimagines classic salsa with an empowering twist. Led by two queer, Colombian-American women, Andrea Chavarro and Katherine Ocampo, Lulada transplants the shimmer and excitement of Cali Colombia salsa straight to the heart of NYC with all the grandeur of a traditional big band. Renowned for their masterful interpretations of vintage tropical rhythms encompassing salsa, bolero, and cha-cha-cha, the powerhouse band pays homage to the icons while offering a fresh perspective through their original compositions.

Saturday, August 29th

Leonel Linares is a Venezuelan-born dancer, choreographer, and arts educator based in New York City. He began his dance training in Mérida, Venezuela, studying Venezuelan folklore, Latin jazz, ballet, contemporary dance, hip hop, and other styles before receiving a scholarship to study at the Joffrey Ballet School in New York. His extensive performance and teaching career spans concert dance and Latin dance, including appearances with renowned Latin artists and at the World Salsa Congress. Leonel is the Executive and Artistic Director of Sol Dance Center and the Leonel Linares Arts Foundation and is dedicated to sharing Latin American culture and building community through dance.
