ZÂ - The Forgotten Maqams of Lorestan
About this Event
ZÂ (from Zayesh - meaning Birth in Persian) is a live performance of traditional music from Lorestan, Iran. From lullabies and ancient ceremonial melodies, from lament to ecstasy, ZÂ brings the sounds and stories of Lorestan to the stage. Behfar Bahadoran's contemporary takes on the maqams on the tar (long necked lute) accompany Mazdak Alipours deeply personal connection to his hertiage and the kamancheh (spiked fiddle). Nariman Assadi powers the performance with the pounding energy of the daf (large snare drum).
