the long read:
It is not unusual, but rather the norm, that the people behind Berlin's DIY concert scene are musically active themselves. They are all united by their enthusiasm and willingness to take matters into their own hands. They strive to strengthen structures and shape culture, usually under very precarious conditions.
The concert series Frictive Frequencies now brings some of the cultural activists who usually work behind the scenes into the spotlight. Over the years, they have all developed remarkable forms of expression as artists, but have often taken a back seat in favor of their organizational activities.
Frictive Frequencies now brings the artistic side of the organizers to the fore, giving something back to this scene. The series sees itself not only as a forum for improvised music, but also as a place for communication and exchange about DIY practices. The invited guests present their own sound languages and share their experiences in artistic and organizational practice in short talks.
(will add bios when they all arrive. hopefully soon.)

Alexandra Maciá is a multidisciplinary artist from Granada based in Berlin. Her practice explores the intersection of sound and image through experimental music, drawing from a background in film and photography developed over the past 15 years.
Using modular synthesizers, electromagnetic sources, analogue audiovisual processes, and DIY or modified hardware, she creates layered compositions and psycho-audiovisual environments that are immersive, unstable, and texturally dense. Her work often incorporates signals captured from televisions, cameras, oscilloscopes, and field recordings, generating raw sonic landscapes that blur the boundaries between noise, perception, and altered sensory experience.
Maciá is also an active member of Phallucipher, E-09, and Bio Glitch, collaborates with the project p o e s i . f y s i k, and is co-founder of Fem Noise, Vortex Era, Critical Noise, and the Sonic FLINTA Archives.
