Led by singer/guitarist Mahamudo Selimane, Zukhuta and Friends is probably the most versatile and exciting African band in Perth.
Mozambican-born singer/guitarist Mahamudo has shared the stage with Salif Keita, Kassav and Manu Dibango and has had years of experience touring the world with his country’s leading band ‘Eyuphoro’, one of the first bands signed to Peter Gabriel’s Real World Record Label. Anyone who has seen him entwine complex rhythm lines on his guitar while singing his highly arranged songs will be won over by his singular musical mastery, apparent whether you are a fan of African Music or not.
Mahamudo has written a whole album of his own songs in Soukouss, Highlife, Rumba, Marrabenta and Zouk styles. It’s totally danceable but also a feast for the ears. It’s a gift for local music lovers that Mahamudo has chosen to settle in Perth.
